Comments from the Instructor

This session was designed as a discussion by sharing case studies for the promotion of Study in Japan and student recruiting through collaboration with "Japan Alumni" who now live all over the world after studying in Japan. Firstly, Mr Omura (JAPI) introduced how they have been networking with the Japan alumni and communities that work closely with Japan beyond national borders. Secondly, Mr Ito (APU) shared the situation at APU where non-Japanese students are welcome. He also described what its alumni network is like, mentioning that the relationship with alumni depends on their satisfaction while at APU. He added that they give a thought to Beppu and try to do something for the city even after graduation from APU because they continue to feel as though Beppu is their second home as they were welcomed by its community (the local government and citizens). In the Q&A session, we shared information and actual case studies regarding how we can approach the Japan alumni outside Japan and what we should be aware of in networking with them and recruiting students. It was pointed out that the Japan alumni don’t necessarily have the latest information about Japan as the information they have is not updated. At the end of the session, Mr Ito explained he would try even harder to provide current students and alumni with the best positive opportunities for their career and life in order to enhance the relationship with them. Mr Omura concluded by sharing his thoughts to establish a scheme in which the Japan alumni can be connected with anyone remotely and hopefully making it possible for educational institutions to utilise it by turning COVID-19 crisis into an opportunity.
